Winter Birds

I am sure you have noticed the amazing numbers of goldfinches at your feeders. They come from south Canada, middle and southern states. Goldfinches will stay quite awhile and the males will even put on their breeding plumage before they leave.

One of the birds that have arrived this winter is the evening grosbeak, they come down from the spruce belt of Canada. You can expect to see them at your feeding tray.

Winter is a good time to put out suet. The receipe can be found on the page...Bird Station.

I leave the mister on, even on cold days. Many birds will still come to the mist for a quick dip and they still need fresh water, of course, even in winter. Sometimes, if it is left on during a freezing night, icicles will have formed.
