Snappy came to our homestead in May of 2002. He immediately settled into the Taylor homestead pond. Unbeknownst to Snappy, it would be a short stay, for the homo sapien sapien that occupied the nearby dwelling simply would not allow it. Indeed the pond's original residents were in jeopardy. Time for immediate action! Weilding a pitch fork, the homo sapien sapien sneakily advanced on the pond, spied Snappy just below the surface and quickly, gently swooped scooped Snappy up and out and into a bucket. After a couple of days of attending school, Snappy was relocated to a beautiful multiacre pond near the Florida Georgia border where he is expected to live happily ever after.
Moral of the story...be wary of putting your hands in your pond!
A lot of turtles were on the move in May. We had weeks and weeks of drought and a lot of turtle habitat was simply disappearing. It is likely that Snappy was searching for water.
