UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA FOUR-YEAR SCHOLAR
Havala Olson Taylor
From the Spring 2005 Commencement...
Havala Taylor is honored today as a University of Florida Outstanding Four-Year Scholar. She graduates summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical
Engineering.
Taylor has been involved in research concerning bulk powder systems, air pollution control and energy production. Her research in the field of air pollution examined a metal oxide catalyst that would be less expensive than traditional catalysts used for nitric oxide removal from a gas stream. In the University Scholars Program, Taylor shifted her focus to pollution prevention
and investigated methods to use sunlight to produce hydrogen fuel from water. Taylor also participated in two industrial internships, one at the Dow Chemical Company and one at Cirent Semiconductor of Lucent Technologies Agere Systems.
Ms. Taylor was awarded the College of Engineering Dean's Scholarship for 2004-2005, the Dow Outstanding Junior Award, and the 2003-2004 Proctor and Gamble Scholarship Award.
She was also named an Anderson Scholar with Highest Distinction and has received University of Florida Presidential Recognition. She has been a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society and Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor
Society. She served as secretary for Tau Beta Pi during spring 2004 and was vice president from fall 2004 to spring 2005.
In her free time, Taylor enjoys participating in outdoor activities such as hiking and camping. Her parents are Suzanne Olson Taylor and the late James Michael Taylor.
She has one younger brother, Wade Taylor.
Next fall, Havala will begin a graduate school program in chemical engineering at Cal Tech with a focus on air quality.
